Fire Prevention Activities -- October 2004 was extremely busy for the members of the Upper Leacock Fire Company. On October 5 and 6, eight members spent the day at local schools. During that time, children were given fire safety tips, a chance to ask questions about fire fighting, and a chance to see and handle some modern fire-fighting equipment. Leola Elementary School kindly provided lunch for the crew. The students really enjoyed spending that time with member. Click Here to see photos of our school visits and open house. On October 21, ULFC hosted an open house for the community. Approximately 250 visitors got a chance to meet our members, see our equipment, and view a demonstration of Holmatro rescue equipment by the members of the Hempfield Fire Company. This is similar to the equipment that we will utilize on our new rescue/engine that will go in service in mid-2005. The Lancaster County Fireman' Association fire prevention trailer, the Leola Ambulance, the Leola Boy Scouts, and the Leola Lions Club were also in attendance. (Posted 11-6-04)

Leola Elementary School -- The Leola Elementary School 2003-04 yearbook dedicated two pages to the Upper Leacock Fire Company. On one page, the annual Jingle Boot fund drive is shown. The students and teachers raised $678 for the Company last winter. On another page, the fire prevention program we perform for the school is depicted. The Fire Company is proud that we can be such an integral part of the education process in our community.
Also, the Fire Company would like to wish Principal Beverly Breneiser a great retirement after 20 years of service in her current position. Bev has contributed so much to making the fire prevention program part of the curriculum at the Leola Elementary School. We really appreciate the effort and support she has shown us. In recognition of her support, several weeks ago the Company presented Bev with a certificate of appreciation, an official Fire Company patch, and a Fire Company T-shirt. We hope she wears them proudly -- a better supporter we could not have had. (Posted 6-08-04)
National EMS Week -- In support of EMS Week, the Upper Leacock Fire Company participated in a mock emergency at the playground of the Leola Elementary School on Saturday, May 22, 2004. The event, organized by Boy Scout Troop 54 of Leola, simulated a lightening strike to the playground with multiple victims. Emergency medical services were summoned, and the Leola Ambulance, along with Lancaster County Medic 100 responded. Due to the nature of the injuries, a helicopter assist was requested. At that time, the Upper Leacock Fire Company responded and set up a landing zone for the helicopter from the Brandywine Hospital in Chester County, PA. The helicopter arrived about 10 minutes later, and Sky FlightCare was quickly landing on the soccer field behind the school. The victim was loaded unto the helicopter and then it departed the scene.
In order to give the people visiting the event a chance to see the helicopter and fire apparatus used to serve the community, the equipment sat in static display for about one hour after the demonstration. Thanks to all the organizations that participated in this event. (Posted 5-22-04)
