Below are some of the articles that have been posted on the Newsroom page during 2003.
House of Representatives Citation -- On Wednesday, November 5, 2003, the Upper Leacock Fire Company was presented with a citation from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania House of Representatives. The Citation, presented by 43rd District Representative Scott W. Boyd, recognized the Upper Leacock Fire Company for the service they provided at the Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 on August 16, 2003. On that date, a lightning strike caused a fire in the IU-13 building. Station 3-11 provided an air assist to the East Petersburg Fire Company for this event.

The Upper Leacock Fire Company appreciates that Representatives Katie True, Roy E. Baldwin, and Scott W. Boyd sponsored this Citation for the East Petersburg, Lancaster Township, Rohrerstown, Southern Manheim Township, and Upper Leacock Fire Companies. (Posted 11-15-03)
Fund Drive Letter -- The 2003 ULFC fund drive letter should have arrived in the mailboxes of all the homes, apartments, and businesses in our first-due area within the past week. In 2002, we mailed our 2495 letters and received a response of 32.3%. This response rate was slightly lower than in previous years. We are hopeful that the the response this year will be better. We have a major investment coming up in 2004 / early 2005 in replacing our 1975 Seagrave engine. This unit has served the township well for 28 years, but increasing maintenance costs, limited equipment space, and out-dated firefighter safety equipment necessitate the replacement of this unit. The estimate cost of the replacement of this unit is $400,000. We believe the citizens of our running area, along with the business leaders will recognize the value of the service we provide to the community and increase the response rate along with the average contribution over the funds received in 2002. Independent Task Force on Emergency Responders -- Nearly two years after 9/11, the United States is drastically under-funding local emergency responders and remains dangerously unprepared to handle a catastrophic attack on American soil, particularly one involving chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or high-impact conventional weapons. If the nation does not take immediate steps to better identify and address the urgent needs of emergency responders, the next terrorist incident could be even more devastating than 9/11.
These are the central findings of the Council-sponsored Independent Task Force on Emergency Responders, a blue-ribbon panel of Nobel laureates, U.S. military leaders, former high-level government officials, and other senior experts. (Posted 9-4-03)
Mutual Aid Drill -- On Tuesday, April 29, 2003, the ULFC hosted a mutual aid drill with the Bareville (3-1) and Liberty (New Holland) Fire Company (3-9). The drill was held behind the ULFC station at 50 West Main Street, Leola. Organized by Deputy Chief Metzler, the scenario involved a simulated vehicle into a building with fire. The drill consisted of Engine 3-11-1, Engine 3-11-2, Air 3-11, Engine 3-1-1, Engine 3-1-2, and Rescue 3-9. The drill involved simulated fire suppression for the vehicle fire, vehicle stabilization, vehicle extrication, building fire suppression, residential rescue, and injured fire fighter rescue from a hazardous environment While the drill lasted about one hour, the debriefing lasted about 45 minutes. During the debriefing, the operations of all companies were discussed. Many observations were made by the evaluators that will improve many aspects of our operations. Thanks to everyone who participated in this event. (Posted 5-6-03)
